The Tegernsee promenade runs for around one kilometer along the eastern shore of Lake Tegernsee and is the perfect choice for a leisurely stroll along the water. Several tourist attractions are accessible along the way. Most visitors are here for the stunning views of the Tegernsee mountains with a stop at one of the popular restaurants and cafes on the waterfront.
The promenade starts at Monte Mare in the center of Tegernsee. From here you can stroll along the boardwalks and through a small park that serves as a shady sunbathing area in summer. Walking further, you will cross the castle promenade, pass the jetty for Tegernsee Boat Tours and carry on to the castle park and finally the Tegernsee monastery.
The Tegernsee Kurgarten with the popular Olaf Gulbransson Museum, a miniature golf course and an adventure playground are located across the street.
Restaurants and Cafés
Cafés, ice cream parlors and restaurants dotted along the promenade offer the perfect vantage point to admire the view. A particularly popular location is the café Seehaus Tegernsee offering breakfast, cake and a refreshing Spritz on a beatiful terrace jutting out into the lake.
Heading south you’ll pass Aran, one of the region’s most popular coffee houses serving brunch, specialty breads and homemade cakes. At the southern end of the castle promenade you will reach the Tegernsee monastery, home of the famous Tegernseer Bräustüberl. During the Advent season, the popular Tegernsee Christmas Market takes place right in front of the Bräustüberl.

Directions and Parking
The parking situation in Tegernsee and almost everywhere around the lake of the same name is particularly tense when the weather is nice. There are several car parks near the waterfront, including the car park at Monte Mare. Alternatively, you can try your luck at the central car park in Tegernsee or at the Schlossplatz car park. Coming from Munich, we recommend the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) from the main train station to Tegernsee station.
