Tegernsee Boat Tours

A boat trip across Lake Tegernsee is the perfect way to exploring this beautiful region. From the water You travel from one town to the next and learn all sorts of interesting facts about the Tegernsee valley.

With the impressive Tegernsee mountains (Mangfall mountains) as a backdrop, the Tegernsee boat trip operates five passenger boats between the four largest towns on the lake: Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern, Bad Wiessee and Gmund. In 1894, Prince Regent Luitpold allowed a fisherman to operate a motor boat trip on Lake Tegernsee for the first time – today, the boat trip is one of the most popular attractions on Lake Tegernsee, with around a quarter of a million passengers every year.

Information about the boats

In recent years, old-fashioned boats have been experiencing a revival. Their historical vibe and leisurely speed seem to fit in with today’s zeitgeist. The oldest boat in the Tegernsee shipping company was built in 1938 (MS Wallberg), the newest in 2003 (MS Tegernsee).

  • MS Tegernsee: Built in 2003 with a maximum capacity of 250 people.
  • MS Rottach-Egern: Identical to the MS Tegernsee. Built in 2002 with a maximum capacity of 250 people.
  • MS Wallberg: Built in 1938 and thus the oldest boat in the fleet. It has a capacity of 164 people.
  • MS Kreuth: Built in 1977 with a nostalgic flair and space for 130 passengers.
  • MS Gmund: Built in 1968 with space for 130 passengers.

Visitors can find paid parking spaces on Lake Tegernsee near each departure point. Due to the popularity of Tegernsee, it can be difficult to find parking. For this reason, we highly recommend using public transport to get to Tegernsee.

Other Boat Tours Nearby

As well as the boat tours on Lake Tegernsee, the Bavarian Lake Shipping Company also operates tours on Lake Ammersee, Lake Königssee and Lake Starnberg. We can also highly recommend the Schliersee Shipping Company a few kilometers to the east for its tours on Lake Schliersee. One of the best boat tours on in the Bavarian lakes with stunning mountain views is on Lake Chiemsee. The boat tours across the lake and to the islands run all year round, including to King Ludwig II’s royal castle on Herreninsel.
