Grill & Barbeque Spots at Tegernsee

Warm sunshine and pleasant temperatures mean it’s the perfect time to fire up the grill and enjoy a barbeque with friends. But what about grilling at Lake Tegernsee? Are you even allowed to grill on the lake and if so, where? Servus Tegernsee answers your questions and sheds some light on everyrthing you need to bear in mind when grilling at Tegernsee.

  1. Is grilling / are barbeques allowed at Tegernsee?

Yes. First the good news: grilling is generally allowed at Tegernsee. However, there are – as you would expect – some important rules to follow. Officially, grilling is only allowed in Gmund: at the fire pits on the lakeshore in Seeglas. For a deposit of 25 euros, you can pick up a grill tray from the municipal depot (gemeindlicher Bauhof) and if you return it clean and undamaged, you will get your money back.

Grilling is also “tolerated” at two other locations. While there is no general grilling permit in public places in the town of Tegernsee, you can set up a grill at the Point Lido. Grilling is generally not allowed in the municipality of Rottach. Unofficially, however, there is nothing against meeting at the gravel works (Kieswek) in Rottach for a barbeque.

One final exception: On the day of the Seefest at the Popperwiese it is also allowed to bring your barbeque and enjoy some food with friends.

What are the rules for barbeques at Tegernsee?

In addition to the local regulations, there are general rules of conduct that should be observed when barbequing at Tegernsee. Please do not set up open fires and instead use a suitable portable grill. Make sure your grill is on a fireproof surface and ensure that the fire is under control at all times. After barbecuing, be sure to let the ashes cool down completely before disposing of them correctly.

Barbecue fans should of course also be considerate of the environment and other visitors to Tegernsee. Do not leave any rubbish behind and leave your barbecue area as clean as you found it. If everyone respects nature and avoids unnecessary noise, we can avoid any ban on barbequing being enforced 🙂
